Chapter 10 (part 2): …No One Cares
Dr. Reginald sat comfortably on the leather chair in front of Mr. Moore's desk. His office was made to his liking. Mr. Moore, Principal of Orimer City High School, handled business and every day problems in style. Today, his office didn't work its magic much in him.
"You know, Regi, these kids aren't like they used to be ever since that incident at the lodge. They're scared stiff to go back to snowboard and ski classes".
"Well, what's your problem then?"
"That contract with the lodge is starting to weigh on me. I've been getting a few calls from them too, so that gets me a bit worked up".
"Chris, don't get so freaked. That lodge answers to me. If I say 'jump', they say 'how high?' They know the risks of passing the line on this matter. I'll tell you what. I'll deal with them and that contract and you can deal with the kids. Give them some coupons for hot chocolate and snacks at the snack bar. Problem solved".
"I wish it was that easy".
"Ok, what now?"
"I'm telling you it's these kids" he says standing up and starts to pace.
"What. Is it?"
"They're starting rumors. About the injured boy, they're saying he's turned into a zombie and they think its…"
"Chris, you make me impatient. Spill it!"
"They think its Henry's fault. They say he came out of the hospital and took revenge on the school, taking out the Senior QB to quench his thirst for blood".
Dr. Reginald stares at Mr. Moore like if he knew what he was being told. Pursing his lips, he says,
"So?"
"What?!!"
"Tell me something I don't know, Chris. Kids will be kids, no matter what. It's just nonsense".
"Well then, tell me what to do! Or at least tell me how the boy is doing! His classmates are getting really worried about him. He's supposedly popular amongst them".
"They don't need to know anything, just yet. Tell the teachers I'll talk to them after classes".
"At least they're taking a breather".
"Why's that?"
"The boy is really conflictive. He's rebellious and always wants his everything to run his way. I even had to intervene in a few of his fits of anger in class".
"Well now I'm sure we're talking about the same guy. He attacked my son and he even killed three of my patients!"
"Did he now? No doubt the boy represents a potential risk to us all. I guess that will be all for one session, Regi. I'll just take your medical opinion and then I'll have the teachers receive a message of the conference you'll have with them".
"What are you going to tell the students about the boy?"
"What do you recommend?"
"The Funeral date".
